Jesus made a path for us
We must walk it ourselves
Rule of Life
A “Rule of Life” is an ancient way of moving from good intentions to practical, satisfying growth. It is about intentionality, and co-operating with the grace that God lavishes on us. God is at work relentlessly, but it is when we start seeking the Lord that things really get interesting.
Your rule of life is a written document, shared with a few trusted friends that allows you to set a course, take measured action and find support and encouragement from others on similar paths. It is a living document – reviewed often, changed as you grow or become fascinated by something new you have just found in the Fathers house. It is the basis for an intentional lifestyle that will help you deepen your relationship with God, discern your purpose, and align your actions with your faith.
Some definitions
- Consolation: Spiritual joy, peace, and closeness to God. It includes increased faith, hope, and love, drawing you toward God
- Desolation: Spiritual dryness, darkness, and turmoil. It involves feelings of distance from God, doubt, and discouragement, pulling you away from God.
- Entanglement: Being tangled up in the “cares of this world”, a “form of religion, but without power”, a “sin that clings so easily” the “pride of life” or any of a hundred other biblical images for the “weeds that choke” us.
- Discernment: Easy really. Everything on this path leads to consolation. If something creates desolation, change it or do something else. Desolation is NEVER a good thing. God’s good goal for you is disentanglement – or freedom – to live the abundant life he wills for you.
